About the Position
Rhode Island Hospital, a part of Brown University Health, is seeking a qualified MRI Technologist to join our team. Under the general supervision of the MRI Manager and Lead MRI Technologists, you will operate MRI equipment to produce high-quality MR images for diagnostic purposes. Your role includes preparing patients for exams, ensuring their safety during procedures, and assisting radiologists with advanced imaging protocols. Additionally, you will troubleshoot equipment issues and perform quality control functions, maintaining the operational integrity of MRI systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Preparing and testing MRI units for daily operation, troubleshooting equipment issues, and recognizing/reporting malfunctions.
- Screening all patients and visitors before entry into MRI zones, adhering to MRI safety guidelines.
- Obtaining and documenting patient history and lab results, calculating and administering contrast as necessary.
- Performing complex imaging, including cross-sectional and multi-planar MR imaging, while ensuring optimal patient positioning and image quality.
- Assisting radiologists in developing new protocols and implementing advanced imaging techniques.
- Providing clinical instruction to MRI students and newly hired staff, participating in in-service education programs.
- Maintaining knowledge of the latest developments in MRI technology, adhering to safety protocols, and maintaining a clean and organized working environment.

Requirements
- Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).
- MRI certification through ARRT (new graduates may obtain within 90 days of hire).
- Current CPR certification from AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers.
- Six months of recent experience as an MRI Technologist or successful completion of an accredited MRI program with at least 1200 clinical hours.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Thorough understanding of cross-sectional anatomy, MRI applications, and computer operations.
- Ability to perform and evaluate complex imaging procedures and manage patient safety.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
This role involves working in a healthcare environment, with exposure to high magnetic fields. Safety protocols are in place to minimize risks. The position requires physical stamina for lifting, positioning, and transporting patients, as well as the ability to manipulate MRI equipment. You must be able to hear verbal instructions, see clearly in the MRI environment, and work with patients who may have communicable diseases.
