About the Position

The Miriam Hospital, part of Brown University Health, is seeking a skilled Cardiac Sonographer to join our team. In this role, under the general supervision of the Cardiac Testing Manager, you will perform and interpret ultrasonic evaluations of the heart. Using techniques such as M-mode, two-dimensional, and Doppler echocardiography, you will assist physicians in diagnosing and treating patients with heart conditions. You will also play a key role in providing patient care, educating cardiology fellows, and participating in data collection for research.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing M-mode, two-dimensional, and Doppler echocardiography (including pulsed, cw, color flow, exercise, and contrast echocardiography) following imaging protocols.
  • Explaining echocardiographic procedures to patients and answering any questions to ensure their safety and comfort.
  • Assisting in teaching cardiology fellows the echocardiography techniques.
  • Adjusting schedules to accommodate patient needs and ensure timely care.
  • Participating in data collection and research conducted by physician staff.
  • Maintaining high standards for quality assurance, safety, and infection control.

Requirements

  • Completion of a CAAEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited ultrasound program.
  • Eligibility to sit for the ARDMS (American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers) certification exam.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients of all ages, with consideration of developmental stages and cultural patterns.
  • At least two years of experience in Cardiac Ultrasound.


Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
This role involves working in a healthcare environment, including physicians' medical office practices and other healthcare facilities. You will work with medical equipment and have direct patient contact, with potential exposure to electrical and energy hazards. The role requires intermittent walking and standing, as well as the ability to lift and position patients and supplies up to 50 pounds.
