About the Position

The Miriam Hospital, part of Brown University Health, is seeking a skilled Ultrasound Technologist to join our team. Under the supervision of radiologists and the Medical Imaging Manager, you will perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures, using the principles of sonography to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses and injuries. You will ensure patient safety and comfort, while also providing exceptional care that reflects the cultural and age-specific needs of the adult and geriatric patient populations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing ultrasonic scanning procedures, including abdominal echoes, thyroid, Doppler studies, breast sonography, and biopsies.
  • Reviewing patient history and clinical data to facilitate optimal diagnostic results.
  • Operating ultrasound equipment efficiently, maintaining aseptic conditions during invasive procedures.
  • Assisting physicians during procedures, including marking the body and acquiring images at specified intervals.
  • Sending imaging and technical notes to the PACS system for physician review.
  • Maintaining supplies for ultrasound procedures, checking expiration dates, and disposing of expired materials appropriately.
  • Providing clinical instruction to ultrasound students and ensuring equipment functions properly, contacting service personnel when necessary.
  • Participating in professional development and in-service education programs to enhance expertise.

Requirements

  • ARDMS certification required.
  • New graduates must obtain ARDMS registration within 6 months of graduation from an approved school.
  • Analytical skills to determine the best diagnostic methods, and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and staff.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to care for patients with attention to aging processes, human development stages, and cultural sensitivity.
  • One year of progressive ultrasound experience preferred.



Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
This role involves working in a healthcare environment with direct patient contact, exposure to medical equipment, and potential hazards minimized by adherence to safety protocols. The position requires walking, standing, lifting patients and supplies (up to 50 pounds), and physical dexterity to operate ultrasound equipment.
