About the Position

Rhode Island Hospital, part of Brown University Health, is seeking a Lead MRI Tech to oversee MRI imaging operations on the night shift. This position requires an experienced MRI technologist with the ability to perform complex imaging procedures, provide technical leadership, and support students and staff in clinical training.

Under the supervision of the Manager of MRI and the Medical Director of MRI, the Lead MRI Tech is responsible for performing highly specialized MRI procedures, troubleshooting MRI equipment, and ensuring adherence to safety standards for strong magnetic fields.

This full-time, night shift opportunity is ideal for technologists looking to take on a leadership role in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and advanced MRI procedures, ensuring high-quality imaging
  • Serve as a technical resource and mentor for MRI technologists and radiology students
  • Oversee MRI safety protocols, including compliance with RIH MRI Magnetic Field Safety Guidelines
  • Assist in the interpretation, communication, and administration of policies and procedures
  • Monitor and maintain MRI equipment functionality, troubleshooting and coordinating repairs as needed
  • Direct the work of other MRI technologists, assigning and reviewing tasks for efficiency
  • Conduct performance appraisals, competency evaluations, and quality assurance reviews
  • Maintain inventory, order supplies, and compile imaging statistics
  • Insert and remove IVs for contrast administration, with the ability to administer IM injections per radiologist instructions
  • Provide patient-centered care, ensuring comfort and safety during procedures

Requirements

  • Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) and in good standing
  • Current CPR certification (AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers)
  • Completion of an accredited MRI technology program
  • Minimum one year of experience as a Radiologic Technologist, plus one year of specialized MRI training
  • In-depth knowledge of MRI equipment, cross-sectional anatomy, and advanced MRI applications
  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills to oversee imaging procedures and interact with healthcare teams
  • Ability to lift and position patients, manipulate MRI coils and ancillary equipment, and transport patients in wheelchairs or stretchers

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position involves direct patient contact and exposure to strong magnetic fields. Applicants must not have any physical conditions aggravated by magnetic fields, acoustic noise, or occasional RF exposure.

Additional requirements include:

  • Ability to stand, walk, crouch, and lift to assist with patient positioning
  • Ability to hear and respond to verbal requests from physicians and patients
  • Potential contact with patients with communicable diseases
